چکیده

Isolation of viruses was performed from various species of mosquitoes collected in Mogi area in Nagasaki City during the summer of 1980 and 1981, by inoculation to Aedes albopictus clone C6/36 cells. In 1980, five strains of Japanese encephalitis (JE) and one strain of Getah (GET) viruses were isolated from five pools of female Culex tritaeniorhynchus. One of the pools yielded both JE and GET viruses. Another strain of GET virus was isolated from a pool of engorged Armigeres subalbatus. In 1981, two JE and one GET strains were isolated from three pools of C. tritaeniorhynchus.

Distribution of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne viruses along the China-Myanmar border in Yunnan Province.

A total of 54,673 mosquitoes were collected at 11 sites located near the China-Myanmar border in the western part of Yunnan Province during July and August 2007. There were 29 species in 4 genera identified from the collections, including 12 species of Culex, 12 species of Anopheles, 3 species of Aedes, and 2 species of Armigeres. Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles (67.9%, 37,119/54,673) and Ano...

European Aedes albopictus and Culex pipiens Are Competent Vectors for Japanese Encephalitis Virus

BACKGROUND Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the causative agent of Japanese encephalitis, the leading cause of viral encephalitis in Asia. JEV transmission cycle involves mosquitoes and vertebrate hosts. The detection of JEV RNA in a pool of Culex pipiens caught in 2010 in Italy raised the concern of a putative emergence of the virus in Europe. We aimed to study the vector competence of Eur...

Susceptibility of Aedes albopictus C6/36 cells to viral infection.

The susceptibility of the C6/36 clone of Aedes albopictus monolayer cell cultures was determined with 46 prototype viruses passed through three subcultures. Viral growth was confirmed by titration of the passage material in other susceptible host systems. Nineteen viruses demonstrated good growth in C6/36 cells: coxsackievirus group A type 10 and group B types 2, 3, 4, and 5; enterovirus 69; mu...

Characterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...

Analysis of the Aedes albopictus C6/36 genome provides insight into cell line adaptations to in vitro viral propagation

Background: The 50-year old Aedes albopictus C6/36 cell line is a resource for the detection, amplification, and analysis of mosquito-borne viruses including Zika, dengue, and chikungunya. The cell line is derived from an unknown number of larvae from an unspecified strain of Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Toward improved utility of the cell line for research in virus transmission, we present an ...
